In a spectacular conclusion to its October Sports Festival, Air Peace Limited celebrated its 10th anniversary on October 20, 2024, Dailyeconomy reports.
The festival according to a statement Dailyeconomy obtained on Wednesday, aimed at fostering unity and team spirit among staff, featured an exciting football tournament with eight male teams and two female teams.
The statement reads in part, “In celebration of its 10th anniversary, West Africa’s largest carrier, Air Peace Limited, hosted the much-anticipated October Sports Festival, tagged ‘October Fest,’ which concluded in spectacular fashion on October 20, 2024.
“The sports festival, designed to foster unity, camaraderie, and team spirit among staff, was a key highlight of Air Peace’s decade-long journey of excellence.
“The October Fest, a football tournament featuring 8 male teams and a novelty match for 2 female teams, kicked off on August 31, 2024. The month-long tournament brought together Air Peace staff from various stations across the sub-Saharan region to compete for glory while deepening bonds within the airline family.”
The Teams that participated in the tournament according to the statement include,
Male Teams: BUU Shooters, BVE Rangers, BQQ Warriors, BUO Army, BWI Wanderers, BYJ Rovers, BXG Gunners and BQV Invaders.
Female Teams: BUJ Amazons and BYF Angels.
The tournament highlighted:
Male Final: BQQ Warriors VS BXG Gunners ended in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw, with BXG Gunners emerging as champions.
Female Final: BUJ Amazons triumphed over BYF Angels in another nail-biting penalty shootout after a 1-1 tie.
In his remark, the Chief Executive Officer and the Chairman of Air Peace, Dr Allen Onyema, emphasised the festival’s role in celebrating teamwork and resilience over the past decade.
He highlighted that the event was not just about competition but also about recognising shared achievements within the Air Peace family.
He said, “October Fest is a celebration of the resilience, dedication, and spirit of teamwork that has been the backbone of Air Peace over the last 10 years. This festival isn’t just about competition.
“It’s about bringing our Air Peace family together, recognizing our shared achievements, and fostering the unity that continues to drive our success. This milestone serves as a reminder of how far we’ve come and the bright future ahead.”
The event also rewarded staff with prizes, including international flight tickets and household appliances, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere. As Air Peace continues to lead in African aviation, this festival marks a memorable milestone in its journey of excellence.
“As part of the festivities, fans (staff) were also rewarded with amazing prizes, including international flight tickets, generator sets, washing machines, freezers, refrigerators, cash rewards, and other exciting household appliances, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
“The conclusion of the October Fest marks the beginning of a memorable celebration of Air Peace’s 10th anniversary, highlighting the airline’s dedication to fostering unity and enhancing the well-being of its employees.
