Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has unveiled striking results from its January 2026 counter-terrorism and anti-oil theft operations, showcasing a relentless push against insecurity.
In a detailed infographic, the military reported neutralising 10 high-profile terrorist commanders and arresting 451 suspects, including notorious kingpin Amadu Adamu.
Operations also freed 277 hostages, among them nationals from Cameroon, while recovering over 281,000 liters of stolen petroleum products.
These gains spotlight intensified efforts under Operation Hadin Kai in the northeast, targeting Boko Haram and ISWAP—where monthly reports have tracked steady progress—and Operation Delta Safe in the south, curbing oil theft that drains an estimated $3 billion annually, according to a 2023 NNPC audit.
This morale boost comes amid ongoing challenges, with UNHCR data showing 3.3 million Nigerians displaced by insecurity as of late 2025.
