The Constitutional Council of Cameroon has announced that 92-year-old President Paul Biya has won the presidential election held on October 12.
Biya received 53.66% of the votes, while his closest competitor, former ally Issa Tchiroma, garnered 35.19%.
Known as one of the world’s longest-serving and oldest presidents, Biya has never experienced an electoral loss.
This victory secures him an eighth term, extending his leadership of the Central African nation until 2032, when he will be nearly 100 years old.
His ongoing presidency has prompted discussions both domestically and internationally regarding democratic reforms, the role of opposition, and the future governance of Cameroon.
