NFF, Fulham condemn racist abuse targeting Bassey after FA Cup triumph against United

The Nigeria Football Federation and Fulham FC have strongly condemned the racist and homophobic abuse directed at defender the Super Eagles star, Calvin Bassey following Fulham’s FA Cup victory over Manchester United.
Bassey, who scored the opening goal in the match, faced vile messages on social media after the game.
However, Fulham in a statement on Monday, expressed their outrage, labeling the behaviour “abhorrent” and pledging to work with authorities to identify and punish the perpetrators.
“Fulham Football Club is utterly appalled at the racist and homophobic abuse received and subsequently shared by Calvin Bassey on social media after yesterday’s FA Cup tie against Manchester United.
“We strongly condemn this abhorrent behaviour which has no place in football or society. Such actions are entirely unacceptable, and we stand in full support of Calvin Bassey, who will continue to receive our full backing.
“We will do everything in our power to work with the relevant authorities in identifying the perpetrators of these vile messages and taking the strongest form of action against them,” Fulham said in a statement.
Also drumming support for their star, the NFF in a tearse statement reaffirmed its commitment to fighting discrimination and providing unwavering support to Bassey, emphasising the importance of fostering respect and inclusion in football and society.
“The NFF stands firmly against all forms of discrimination, including racial abuse, and fully supports @CalvinBassey in the face of these unacceptable actions.
“We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all players, both on and off the field. Calvin has our unwavering support, and together, we will continue to fight against racism in football and society,” NFF said.
