Manchester United manager, Michael Carrick has declared that leading the club remains “the best job I could possibly have,” even as the team navigates a difficult start to the season and growing scrutiny.

In comments, Carrick said, “This is the best job I could possibly have.”

He added, “I feel a real privilege of being in this position and a real responsibility, but equally a drive of wanting to make a difference and having success here.”

Carrick took permanent charge in May 2026 on a two-year deal after a successful interim spell.

He replaced Amorim in January and guided United to a third-place finish and Champions League qualification, winning 11 of his 16 matches in that period.

However, the 2026/27 campaign has begun poorly.

United have struggled for results, recording one of their worst starts to a league season in decades and sitting low in the table after early fixtures.

The side has also faced internal tension, including public criticism from defender Lisandro Martínez directed at the club’s hierarchy and technical director Jason Wilcox.

Despite the pressure and speculation about his future, club ownership has so far backed Carrick to continue.

The former United midfielder, who enjoyed a successful playing career at Old Trafford, has repeatedly emphasised his commitment to turning the situation around and embracing the challenges of the role.
