Abuja’s US Embassy, Consulate General in Lagos shut down Thursday

The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos have announced closure on Thursday, January 9, 2025, to honour the former United States President Jimmy Carter’s passing.
This was disclosed in a statement shared on X (formally Twitter) by the United States Mission in Nigeria, on Wednesday.
It reads,,”The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Thursday, January 9, 2025 in honor of former President Carter’s passing.
“We remember former President Jimmy Carter, a tireless advocate for peace, democracy, and human rights. As the first U.S. President to visit Nigeria, he strengthened U.S.-Nigeria relations and supported Nigeria’s democratic process. His legacy continues to inspire us.”
Carter served as the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
