A faction of the Labour Party (LP) led by Julius Abure organised a protest today at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

The protest was sparked by INEC’s omission of the candidates submitted by the Abure-led faction for the upcoming elections for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council and various National Assembly by-elections.

The demonstrators, wearing branded clothing and holding placards, walked around the INEC grounds while chanting slogans and expressing their concerns.

Their placards included messages like “INEC should uphold the rule of law,” “Supreme Court ruling supports Julius Abure,” and “Stop undermining democracy in Nigeria.”

Security personnel closely monitored the event to ensure it remained peaceful.

This protest underscores the ongoing leadership conflict within the Labour Party.

However, the leadership of the party has disassociated itself from the protest.

The party’s interim national chairman, Nenadi Usman, through his Senior Special Adviser on Media, Ken Eluma Asogwa, in a release described the protesters as “impostors” and “political impersonators.”
