Africa Re begins 50th anniversary celebrations ahead of June 2026 grand finale

The African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re), Africa’s leading reinsurance company, has commenced activities to mark its Golden Jubilee anniversary. The pan-African reinsurer will celebrate its 50th anniversary in grand style, culminating in a two-day event scheduled for 24 and 25 June 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria. The theme of the celebration is: “Reinsurance Excellence, Securing the Future.”

Established in 1976 by member States of the Organisation of African Unity (now the African Union) and the African Development Bank, Africa Re was conceived as a pan-African reinsurance institution to support the continent’s economic and social development and reduce capital flight to overseas markets.

According to astatement from the organisation, reflecting on the Corporation’s 50-year journey, Group Managing Director/CEO, Corneille Karekezi, said the company’s success is rooted in the dedication and hard work of successive generations of leadership and staff who have remained committed to its founding vision.

“Fifty years on, Africa Re has evolved into a globally respected institution, distinguished by its financial strength, technical excellence, and unwavering commitment to the development of African economies,” he stated.

He further invited member States, clients, partners, and stakeholders to join the Corporation in Abuja on 24 and 25 June 2026 to celebrate its remarkable achievements and reflect on its future role in strengthening Africa’s reinsurance landscape.

Dr. Karekezi also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the Nigerian people for their strong support toward the Corporation and the forthcoming anniversary celebrations.
