Afriland Properties Plc has expressed deep sorrow following a fire incident at its headquarters, Afriland Towers, located on Broad Street, Lagos Island. The company offered its heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by the incident, which occurred on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Chukwunonso Okafor, the company said: “We are deeply saddened by this incident. Our hearts are with all those impacted, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies to their families and loved ones.”

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire began in the building’s inverter room. Despite adherence to standard evacuation protocols, smoke spread rapidly through the building — including the emergency exits — complicating escape efforts.

Emergency services, including the Federal Fire Service and Lagos State Fire Service, responded promptly to the distress call, working tirelessly to contain the fire and assist in rescue operations.

Okafor acknowledged their efforts, stating: “We sincerely appreciate the heroic efforts of the emergency responders, first aid workers, and members of the public who assisted with the incident today.”

An official investigation has been launched to determine the full cause and impact of the fire. Afriland Properties assured the public that it is cooperating fully with relevant authorities and will provide timely updates as more information becomes available.
