The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi has faulted elected governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo over suspending 18 Local Government chairmen and their deputies.

Fagbemi stated that only the legislative arm of government can place council Chairmen on suspension.

Dailyeconomy gathered this in a video shared by TVC News on Friday.

Fagbemi said, “One thing that I know, and can say without any fear, is that under the present dispensation, no governor has the right to remove any local government chairman, that much I know.

“If I didn’t know, since July 11 2024, I became aware of it, that removal of any local government chairman or official would be the prerogative of that local government.”

Recall that Okpebholo on Tuesday, December 17 suspended 18 Edo state local government chairmen alongside their deputies over misconducts, on grounds of not tendering their statement of finance to him.
