Trent Alexander-Arnold has announced he will leave Liverpool when his contract expires on June 30, 2025. This will end a two-decade association with the club he joined at age six.

The 26-year-old defender described the decision as the hardest of his life, emphasising his deep connection to Liverpool and the bittersweet nature of his departure.

“This club has been my whole life – my whole world – for 20 years. From the Academy right through until now, the support and love I have felt from everyone inside and outside of the club will stay with me forever.

“I will forever be in debt to you all,” said Alexander-Arnold.

He explained that the move is motivated by a desire for a new challenge and personal growth, “I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally.”

Alexander-Arnold reflected on his commitment to Liverpool, saying, “I’ve given my all every single day I’ve been at this club, and I hope you feel like I’ve given back to you during my time here.”

He expressed gratitude to everyone connected with the club, “From the bottom of my heart, I thank everybody – my coaches, my managers, my teammates, the staff and our incredible supporters – for the last 20 years.”

The defender leaves Liverpool with 352 appearances, 23 goals, and eight major trophies, including the Premier League title this season.

While he has not officially confirmed his next club, reports strongly link him to a move to Real Madrid.

Albeit, a Football transfer journalist, Fabrizio Romano said, “Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, here we go!

“Decision to leave Liverpool now confirmed as Trent says goodbye to the club after winning one more PL title.

“Documents being prepared for Trent to join Real Madrid on a 5-year contract, verbal agreement done.”
