The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticised Peter Obi for his delayed and insincere response to the recent U.S. designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern”.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Lagos APC spokesman Seye Oladejo said, “For a man always seeking microphones and hashtags, his sudden silence was deafening – until well-meaning Nigerians began to publicly question it.”
He added that Obi’s reaction was “too little, too late, and too predictable,” lacking “sincerity, urgency, and any semblance of a unifying spirit.”
Oladejo further accused Obi of exploiting Nigeria’s challenges for political gain, stating, “Peter Obi appears content only when Nigeria is under pressure, believing every challenge for the nation is an opportunity for his political resurrection. That is not patriotism. It is sour politics born from electoral heartbreak.”
Highlighting ongoing efforts by President Tinubu, the spokesman emphasised, “Nigeria’s security problems did not start yesterday – they were inherited.
President Tinubu is confronting them with courage and strategy,” listing actions such as improving military intelligence and fostering global collaboration.
The statement concluded with a call to national unity: “Obi must decide whether he stands with Nigeria or with his ever-shrinking echo chamber of bitterness and resentment. Nigeria will succeed – despite those praying for its failure and reacting only when forced by public pressure.”
