Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Division have arrested 19 suspected oil thieves and dismantled 22 illegal refining sites across the Niger Delta region, recovering over 180,000 litres of stolen petroleum products worth approximately ₦150 million.
The breakthrough came after a coordinated one-month operation spanning four Niger Delta states, conducted in collaboration with other security agencies. Acting Deputy Director of 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Danjuma, disclosed the details in a statement issued on Monday and shared with journalists in Port Harcourt.
The operation targeted oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and related crimes plaguing the oil-rich region. “Troops of the 6 Division will continue to dominate the operational environment and deny criminal elements freedom of action,” Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma said.
He also called on local communities to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security efforts.
