Troops of the 35 Artillery Brigade have foiled a drug smuggling attempt early Saturday, recovering 296 large wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa along the Abeokuta-Igboora Road.

In a statement released Monday, Major Iderghi Samuel Akari, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the brigade, detailed the operation, “TROOPS OF 35 ARTILLERY BRIGADE INTERCEPT 296 LARGE WRAPS OF CANNABIS SATIVA IN OGUN.

In a bid to make Ogun State free from drugs and drug-related activities, the troops acting on a strategic tip-off on the planned movement of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa along Abeokuta – Igboora Road, at about 4:30 AM on 1 March 2026 moved in and intercepted one motorcycle without registration number and 296 large wraps of substances concealed in three massive sacks suspected to be Cannabis Sativa (Indian Hemp).

The suspect abandoned his unregistered motorcycle and fled into the dense bush under the cover of darkness.”

The recovered items—three massive sacks of the suspected Indian Hemp—have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, for further investigation and action.

The brigade reaffirmed its commitment to security, stating it has “resolved to make the State unsafe for drug traffickers and other criminal elements and urged them to engage in legitimate businesses or find themselves in the net of security agencies.”

Major Akari also reassured residents, “The Brigade wishes to reassure the general public and the good people of Ogun State that the Nigerian Army remains fully committed to protecting lives and properties, maintaining robust presence across the State and to prevent criminals from operating with impunity.”
