Army promotes 105 senior officers to strengthen defence leadership

The Nigerian Army Council has approved the strategic promotion of 105 senior officers to bolster leadership within the military, a statement released on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director Army Public Relations, confirmed.
On Thursday, 27 November 2025, 28 Brigadier Generals were elevated to the rank of Major General, while 77 Colonels were promoted to Brigadier General. Notable officers promoted to Major General include Brig Gen O Adegbe from the Defence Intelligence Agency, Brig Gen SM Uba, Director of Defence Information, and Brig Gen RE Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence Army.
The promotion list also features officers from key operational and administrative roles across the Nigerian Army, such as Brig Gen SY Yakasai, Acting Director Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff, Brig Gen SS Tilawan, Acting Commander of Sector 3 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, and Brig Gen ZA Saidu, promoted posthumously.
Among those raised to Brigadier General are Colonels Y Ibrahim, NN Gambo, and A Saidu, among many others serving in diverse critical army departments and units.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, congratulated the promoted officers and their families, urging them to “intensify their professional drive and prove beyond doubt that their elevation is well-deserved.”
He stressed the importance of “demonstrating exemplary leadership” and cultivating “bold, innovative and unconventional solutions capable of delivering swift and decisive responses to the nation’s evolving security threats.”
The COAS underscored the officers’ sacred duty, reminding them to uphold “without compromise, their sacred oath of allegiance to defend the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” and to maintain “absolute, unwavering and beyond reproach” loyalty to the Constitution.
