Troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade, led by Brigadier General M Uba, successfully fought off a heavy insurgent ambush while patrolling communities near Wajiroko in Azir Multe, Damboa LGA, Borno State.
The Nigerian Army stated in a statement that was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, on Saturday that the patrol came under “sudden and heavy insurgents fire” as they returned from a mission near Sambisa Forest.
Despite the intense attack, the troops, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), “courageously fought through the insurgents ambush with superior fire power, forcing them to withdraw in disarray and to abandon their mission.”
Tragically, two soldiers and two CJTF members lost their lives during the encounter, paying “the supreme price while on active service to the nation.”
The Army high command commended the troops for their gallantry and extended condolences to the families of the fallen heroes.
Addressing misinformation, the Army Headquarters firmly rejected false reports about the Brigade Commander’s abduction, urging the public to “disregard the fake news regarding the incident.”
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, praised the troops’ “uncommon bravery, resilience and sacrifice,” highlighting their unwavering commitment in one of Nigeria’s most dangerous conflict zones.
