Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commended, a Nigerian youth corper, Ushie Uguamaye, likewise known as Raye, for her bravery in speaking out against economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu.

In a video shared on her TikTok account talktoraye on Saturday, Raye expressed frustration over Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions, lamenting that hard work seems futile amid financial struggles.

She criticised Tinubu, describing him a “terrible leader,” and questioned the government’s efforts to alleviate citizens’ suffering, Dailyeconomy reported.

Raye’s viral video highlighted the struggles of corps members, prompting threats from NYSC officials.

In reaction, Atiku in a statement shared on X (formally Twitter) on Sunday, praised Raye’s boldness, likening her to trailblazers like Gambo Sawaba and Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti.

He emphasized that she deserves support, not hostility, as she embodies the spirit of a new generation of leaders ready to shape Nigeria’s future.

He wrote, “Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere.

“I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition.

“She follows in the footsteps of formidable trailblazers like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo and countless other women who have stood resolute in defense of the common good.

“Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support. She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future.”
