The labour unions representing staff at the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) have announced the suspension of their planned strike action scheduled to begin Monday, August 11, 2025.

As stated in a remark obtained from the NAMA, the decision follows promising developments in ongoing negotiations for improved remuneration.

The unions had earlier issued a notice to commence industrial action due to unsatisfactory progress on salary enhancements.

However, as stated in a joint communiqué released yesterday, the intervention of the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyano, senior officials from the Ministry, and proactive management efforts have led to constructive outcomes.

“We were compelled by unfavourable circumstances surrounding our quest for improved remunerations to reinforce our earlier notice of withdrawal of services,” the unions said.

“Now, however, due to the hard work of the Management of NAMA and the intervention of the Honourable Minister of Aviation and other senior officials of the Ministry, we are happy to report that there have been some positive developments.”

Among the positive signs is the issuance of a ‘no objection’ letter from the Budget Office to the National Incomes, Salaries, and Wages Commission on August 7, 2025.

This endorsement paves the way for the approval of the new payment structure. Additionally, NAMA’s management sent a communication to staff assuring their commitment and expectation that the new remunerations will be paid alongside August salaries.

In light of these developments, the unions expressed optimism but remain cautious. “Based on the above, and in order to demonstrate good faith, our unions have decided to defer the strike action scheduled for August 11 pending the state of affairs at the end of August 2025,” the statement read.

The unions concluded by urging all NAMA staff to maintain a hopeful stance as discussions and implementations unfold.

“Accordingly, we enjoin all staff of NAMA to join us in keeping hopeful watch as situation unfolds,” the statement added.
