Jude Bellingham is possible to play against Switzerland on Saturday despite his UEFA suspension.

The 21-year-old scored a last-minute equaliser to force the last-16 game into extra time, with Harry Kane then netting the winning goal to set up a quarter-final tie against Switzerland.

Bellingham appeared to follow his 95th-minute strike in Gelsenkirchen by making an improper gesture and jubilation in the direction of Slovakia’s bench.

In a statement, UEFA said, “The control, ethics and disciplinary body had taken the decision to fine Jude Bellingham €30,000 (£25,300) and to suspend him for a total of one UEFA competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible for violating the basic rules of decent conduct.

“Said suspension is not immediately enforced and is subject to a probationary period of one year, starting from the date of the present decision.”

With the suspension rule, Bellingham has the opportunity to continue his Euro 2024 competition as his one-match suspension lasts one year.

Also, confirming the development on Friday, the veteran sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano on his X (formally Twitter) handle said, “Bellingham’s suspension is valid for a year so he will be able to play against Switzerland.”
