BIBA honours Olola Ogunlana with “Lifetime Achievement” Award

In a grand gesture of recognition, the British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) has conferred its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award on the Doyen of Nigerian insurance, Olola Olabode Ogunlana, at the association’s ongoing conference in Manchester.
A statement on Wednesday said the esteemed award which is the first to be conferred on any Nigerian is a testament to Ogunlana’s remarkable contributions to the insurance industry, spanning over 72 years. As a trailblazer in the field, Ogunlana’s dedication, expertise, and passion have earned him a reputation as one of the most respected voices in the industry.
A thoroughbred Nigeria, Olola Ogunlana has built an illustrious career, marked by unwavering commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of the insurance landscape. His vast experience has not only benefited his clients but has also shaped the industry’s growth and development in Nigeria.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is a fitting tribute to his remarkable journey, acknowledging his tireless efforts to promote professionalism, innovation, and best practices in the insurance sector. This recognition by BIBA, a leading authority in the UK insurance industry, underscores Ogunlana’s global impact and influence.
“BIBA is delighted to honor Olola Frederick Olabode Ogunlana with this prestigious award, his exceptional career and lifelong commitment to personal and professional development makes him a true pioneer in the insurance industry and an inspiration to many. And he still carries on to this day at the remarkable age of 92,” said Graeme Trudgill, Chief Executive, BIBA.
The judges made their selection because of his long-standing contribution to the insurance industry spanning 73 years. He is the author of five books and was one of the founding members of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, West African Insurance Companies Association, African Insurance Organisation and the Nigerian Institute of Management.
His career is also marked by his involvement at Lloyd’s of London, where he was an underwriting member for 10 years. He is deeply involved in various charitable and educational organisations. His passion for youth development is evident through his active participation.
Over 64 delegates from the Nigerian Insurance Industry under the aegis of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) stormed the Conference in honour of the Doyen.
The Council’s President, Prince Babatunde Adeleke Oguntade noted that the remarkable career and contributions of Olola Ogunlana to the insurance industry were undoubtedly, inspiration to many Nigerian Insurance Professionals.
Delighted by the honour conferred on Olola Ogunlana, Prince Oguntade opined that the award should be seen as honour to the Nigerian Insurance Industry.

The award ceremony which took place at the beginning of the BIBA conference in Manchester on Tuesday, brought together industry leaders, experts, and professionals across the globe to celebrate Olola Ogunlana’s outstanding legacy.
President Oguntade added that the British Insurance Brokers Association’s decision to honor him was a fitting tribute to his remarkable career, and “we congratulate him on this outstanding achievement”.
