21 people died when a bus carrying mourners overturned at the Coptic Roundabout on the Kisumu-Kakamega Road in southwestern Kenya, after the driver lost control while approaching a roundabout at high speed, causing the bus to plunge into a ditch.
The victims include 10 women, 10 men, and a 10-year-old girl.
Five other people were critically injured, with 15 sustaining minor cuts.
The accident occurred as the bus was returning from a funeral in the Nyahera area of Kisumu.
The Coptic Roundabout is known as a dangerous spot with frequent accidents often blamed on poor road design, lack of clear signage, and reckless driving.
It was gathered that the injured ones were taken to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu for treatment.
Kenya Red Cross rushed to the scene to help in rescue operations together with St John’s hospital and other County hospitals.
