Catholic students abduction: Atiku calls for state of emergency on insecurity

In the early hours of Friday, armed bandits launched a brutal attack on St. Mary’s Private (Catholic) Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting an unspecified number of students from the school hostel.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun.
According to the statement, police tactical units, alongside military forces and other security agencies, swiftly mobilised to the area. They are currently combing nearby forests in efforts to locate and rescue the kidnapped students.
Reacting to the harrowing event, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar expressed deep anguish: “Not again. This is truly heartbreaking.
“How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken? It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves.”
Niger State Police Commissioner CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman reassured the public of ongoing efforts, emphasizing the commitment of security forces to ensure the safe recovery of the students.
