Chelsea Football Club has named Liam Rosenior as the new head coach of its men’s team, signing the 41-year-old Englishman to a long-term contract running until 2032.

The announcement came in an official club statement released on Tuesday, marking a swift transition following the departure of previous coach Enzo Maresca.

Rosenior brings a proven track record from stints at RC Strasbourg, where he guided the French side to European qualification for the first time in 19 years during his debut season, as well as earlier roles with Hull City and Derby County in England.

The club praised his ability to “build teams with a clear way of playing while setting the highest standards with players on and off the pitch,” emphasising a continued focus on player development alongside ambitions to compete at the elite level.

In his first comments as Chelsea boss, Rosenior expressed profound gratitude and outlined his vision, “I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club. This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies.”

He added, “I believe deeply in teamwork, unity, togetherness and working for one another, and those values will be at the heart of everything we do. They will be the foundation of our success.”

The move follows Chelsea’s mutual parting with Enzo Maresca last Thursday after 92 matches, despite his successes in the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup.

The club’s statement on Maresca noted, “During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.”

Chelsea’s hierarchy expressed confidence in Rosenior’s immediate impact, stating he “has the ability to get the best out of this squad quickly” with full backing to challenge in all competitions.

Fans can expect his first training sessions soon, as he eagerly awaits connecting with the Stamford Bridge faithful, “I want our fans to be proud of who we are and what we represent in every single game that we play.

“They are the soul of this enormous, historic and huge football club. I cannot wait to meet you all. I cannot wait to get started.”
