Chelsea coach, Enzo Maresca has revealed why the club failed to sign the Nigerian and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen before the transfer window closed.
Chelsea jostled hard to sign the striker on transfer deadline day but all the efforts were unsuccessful.
Osimhen reportedly turned down several proposals from Chelsea due to a payment agreement.
Maresca in a press conference on Sunday said, “We want players but we want players that we decide and then the condition has to be our condition.
“So if the players are not here, then that means the conditions were not good for us.”
However, when asked if the club will still consider pursuing the striker in the January transfer window, he said, “Yeah, we’ll see now, from here to January. I don’t know how many games we have, but I’ve told you many times I like to focus on the next days. So we will see in January.”
Dailyeconomy on Saturday, August 31, reported that Al Ahli was also interested in getting Osimhen into the Saudi Pro League and Napoli had reportedly accepted a £67.3 million offer from the Arabian club for the player, who would have earned £33.6 million a season but Napoli reportedly demanded an extra €5 million to the deal, provoking Al Ahli to look elsewhere and sign another striker, Ivan Tooney from Brentford.
