The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has expressed unwavering support for Nigeria’s development path and security noting that China oppose any country’s interference in other countries.
While highlighting the strategic partnership between the two nations a statement on Thursday via X, Dunhai said, “As a comprehensive strategic partner of Nigeria, China firmly supports the Nigerian government in leading its people to a development path that fits Nigeria’s national realities.
“We oppose any country’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of religion and human rights. We oppose the wanton threat of sanction and use of force.”
Dunhai also lauded the continuing cooperation between Nigeria and China since President Bola Tinubu’s visit to China last year, stressing the positive impact on Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.
“Since President Tinubu’s attendance at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and his state visit to China last year, practical cooperation between our two countries across various fields has yielded fruitful outcomes, effectively supporting Nigeria’s socioeconomic development and the improvement of people’s livelihoods.”
On security matters, the ambassador reaffirmed China’s commitment to assist Nigeria in its fight against terrorism.
He disclosed that he met recently with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to discuss ongoing collaborations.
“China is willing to continue supporting Nigeria in combating terrorism and maintaining domestic stability,” said Dunhai.
This came following the United States President, Donald Trump warned of deploying American forces if alleged Christian genocides continued in Nigeria, albeit, Nigeria’s government under Bola Tinubu firmly denied these allegations noting, “Nigeria faces longstanding security challenges that have impacted Christians and Muslims alike, and we mourn every loss of life—knowing that even a single loss of life is one too many.”
