The College of Insurance and Financial Management (CIFM), Nigeria’s premier institution for insurance education, has once again expanded the frontiers of learning, professional development, and organisational excellence at the fourth edition of its 2026 Learning and Development Confab, held at the College on Friday.
Themed “The Workforce Blueprint 2030: Building Capability, Compliance and Performance for the Nigerian Insurance Market,” the confab provides an important platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration among industry stakeholders.
The Rector of the College, Dr. Chizoba Ehiogu, while delivering her welcome address noted that the confab is considered both timely and relevant as it aligns with the provisions, expectations, and opportunities of the Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA), as well as the Insurance Industry Transformation Roadmap 2030, which emphasizes capacity building, talent development, and retention as key drivers of the industry’s sustainable growth.
According to Dr. Ehiogu: “Through capability development, rigorous compliance, and enhanced performance, we contribute to the shared objectives of strengthening the insurance sector. Our focus remains on talent development, leadership and retention, strong regulatory compliance, as well as industry innovation and digital transformation.”
Speaking further, the Rector encouraged participants to actively engage, network, and leverage the knowledge shared during the sessions. She also expressed appreciation for the industry’s continued support in 2025, noting that the College looks forward to feedback that will further enhance its programmes and service delivery.
Delivering the keynote address, the CEO and Founder of Coreal8 Limited, Dr. Enobong Ezekiel, emphasized that the future of the insurance industry lies in investing in people. “The Workforce Blueprint 2030 is not about systems and processes; it is about people. It is about investing in the individuals who come to work every day and trusting them with your organisation’s most valuable asset — your customers’ confidence,” she said.
Dr. Ezekiel further noted that when HR professionals build capable, compliant, and high-performing workforces, they do more than improve business metrics. “We create organisations where talented people can grow and thrive. We build institutions customers can trust, contribute to an industry that supports Nigeria’s development ambitions, and ultimately leave a legacy worth being proud of.”
Building on the keynote presentation, Mrs. Oluyemisi Situ, a Consultant at CRL Business Ltd led the interactive session that allowed practitioners to reflect on the real learning and development challenges facing the insurance industry today. According to her “One message is clear: while compliance training remains essential, the future competitiveness of the industry will depend on how effectively organisations build deeper professional capability and leadership capacity across their workforce”. She added that “If the industry is to realise the vision of the Workforce Blueprint 2030, learning must translate into real capability, stronger leadership, and measurable performance across organisations”.
In recognition of individuals and organisations that demonstrated strong commitment to the College’s training programmes during the 2025 financial year, the College also presented several awards. Ifunanya Obi of Heirs Life Assurance received the Compliance Officer of the Year 2025, while Tinuade Oyekan of SBG Insurance Brokers was honoured as L&D Specialist of the Year 2025. AIICO Insurance Plc received the Company of the Year 2025 award in recognition of its exemplary commitment to workforce development, technical excellence, and sustained investment in professional growth within the insurance industry.
