Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu has directed the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji to update its curriculum to match the nation’s shifting security challenges and boost inter-agency teamwork.

The directive came during a Wednesday meeting at Army Headquarters in Abuja with AFCSC Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Alfred Olugbenga Shogbanmu.

A statement obtained by Appolonia Anele, Colonel and Acting Director of Army Public Relations, titled “COAS ADVANCES STRATEGIC MILITARY EDUCATION TO BOLSTER NATIONAL SECURITY, INTER-AGENCY SYNERGY,” outlined the key points.

Lieutenant General Shaibu praised AFCSC’s role in training top-tier officers, noting the need for “adaptive, future-oriented training that reflects operational realities and enhances joint planning and execution” amid a “complex and dynamic security environment.”

He highlighted the new Western Theatre Command as a response to emerging threats and pledged ongoing Army support, including infrastructure upgrades, calling the college a “critical engine for the development of staff officers whose professionalism directly influences operational effectiveness nationwide.”

Air Vice Marshal Shogbanmu thanked the Army for aid like a new simulation centre and facility rehab, vowing to “continually refine its academic and professional programmes in line with contemporary security demands and to further deepen inter-agency cooperation.”
