Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has spearheaded an on-the-spot assessment of the security situation in Jos on Thursday, accompanied by heads of other security agencies.

The visit underscores ongoing efforts to restore calm and establish lasting peace amid recent tensions.

Colonel Apollonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, detailed the engagements in a statement released on Thursday.

She noted that upon arrival, the COAS was received by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, highlighting “strong civil-military cooperation and a shared commitment to addressing emerging security challenges.”

Major General Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, provided a comprehensive operational briefing.

It covered proactive measures in synergy with other agencies to “contain threats, protect lives and property and stabilise affected communities.”

General Shaibu also met with community leaders and residents, urging vigilance and cooperation.

“Residents should remain calm, vigilant and supportive of security agencies by complying with the curfew and cooperating fully with ongoing operations and investigations, while going about their lawful activities,” he reassured them.

Jos North LGA Chairman Dachung Bagos said the COAS’s presence would “boost public confidence and reinforce trust in ongoing security efforts.”

The Army in the statement affirmed its resolve, vowing to work with sister agencies, the state government, and stakeholders for “enduring peace, strengthening community resilience and ensuring that Plateau State remains safe and secure for all.”
