The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has stressed the vital need for a “unified and coordinated approach among security agencies” to tackle Nigeria’s security challenges.
Speaking during a meeting at Army Headquarters with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu on his maiden familiarisation visit, Lt. Gen. Shaibu highlighted inter-agency synergy as indispensable.
The statement, issued on Wednesday by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, detailed the discussions.
IGP Disu praised the “long-standing and strategic partnership” between the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police Force, emphasising strengthened collaboration to combat internal threats.
He thanked the Army for training Police Mobile Force personnel, which has boosted operational effectiveness, and pledged continued intelligence sharing.
In response, the COAS congratulated Disu on his appointment as the 23rd IGP, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to joint operations.
He noted their shared history in the United Nations Mission in Darfur and acknowledged police support in Kogi, Kwara, and Niger States against banditry and kidnapping.
“Only through a unified and well-coordinated inter-agency framework can enduring peace and security be achieved nationwide,” Lt. Gen. Shaibu stated.
