Couple arrested for child abuse in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested and charged a couple to court for child abuse.
The couple identified as Fatima Abubakar and her husband, Abubakar Yuguda, were charged in court over offences of Criminal Conspiracy and cruelty to the children.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the Adamawa police command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the couple who are residents of Sanda, Makama B Ward in Yola South local government area of Adamawa, were apprehended following a report from neighbours for the couple’s continuous physical assault of two minors under their custody.
Nguroje said, “The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested and charged Fatima Abubakar, 28 years old, and her husband, Abubakar Yuguda, to court for the offences of Criminal Conspiracy and cruelty to persons.
“The couple, residents of Sanda, Makama B Ward in Yola South LGA, was apprehended following a report from concerned neighbours regarding the continuous physical abuse of two minors under their custody.
”The victims, identified as Hafsat Abubakar (2 years) and Usman Abubakar (4 years) were subjected to severe maltreatment, by their stepmother before their rescue by the police.”
However, Nguroje in a statement asserted the couple had confessed to their involvement in the crime and were swiftly charged in court.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankombo, Psc (+) has reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the society, especially Children, and ensuring that perpetrators face justice.
”He urged the public to report any incidents of abuse to the Police,” the statement added.
