The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Gwarimpa has on Thursday granted bail to former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, in an ongoing corruption case involving alleged financial improprieties exceeding N2.2 billion.

Justice Maryam Hassan adopted the terms of the administrative bail earlier granted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, allowing Ngige to remain free under those conditions pending the determination of the case.

In addition, the court directed that Ngige produce one surety who must be a federal government director with landed property in Abuja.

The surety is required to deposit valid title documents and an international passport with the court registrar.

Ngige was also ordered to submit his new international passport once retrieved, having informed the court that his previous passport was lost.

The EFCC alleged that Ngige awarded contracts to associates and received gifts through his campaign organisation, forming the basis of the eight-count charge filed against him.

The matter has been adjourned to January 28 and 29, 2026, for the continuation of the trial.
