The Bayelsa State Police Command has swiftly responded to a viral video showing officers assaulting a tricycle (keke) driver, with Commissioner of Police CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor condemning the incident and ordering the immediate arrest of those involved.

In an official statement released by DSP Musa Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer, CP Edebor described the assault as “unacceptable and contrary to professional policing standards.”

He emphasised that “the Command does not tolerate any form of human rights violation, unprofessional conduct or brutality.”

The video, which has circulated widely on social media, captured the officers’ alleged brutality against the rider, prompting public outrage.

Bayelsa Police confirmed the officers have been detained, with disciplinary proceedings underway “in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act and other extant regulations.”

CP Edebor reiterated the command’s dedication to citizens, stating it maintains an “unwavering commitment to the protection of the rights and safety of all citizens while ensuring lawful and professional policing across Bayelsa State.”
