Afrobeats star, David Adeleke alias Davido, has reacted to criticism over his recent remarks about Nigeria’s economic challenges.
Speaking in an interview with The Big Homies House podcast, Davido advised Black Americans against relocating to Nigeria, citing poor leadership, a declining exchange rate, and rising oil prices as major concerns.
He could be heard saying, “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles.”
He added, “I am talking about the situation in the country. Now the exchange rate is messed up, a lot of stuffs are not going well. The economy is just not good enough. The oil price is too high. Imagine the country that produces oil, paying more for it than a country importing oil.”
However, the statement has since gone viral that has made many Nigerians at home and abroad criticise him of tarnishing the country’s image.
However, a presenter on TVC, Akashat Ny’mat, asserted that Davido’s remarks were inappropriate on a global platform.
Ny’mat said, “When the President takes a plane to a country to look for foreign investors and a prominent figure like Davido says this, he is essentially telling them not to come.”
Reacting, Davido via his X (formally Twitter) wrote, “Lmao #tvcnewsng nah today? You all are mad ‘cus we the real ambassadors.”
He also expressed excitement over his delivery during the podcast, stating, “The way my accent be for that interview dey sweet me very demure.”
Davido later spoke on concerns that his shows in Nigeria might be cancelled due to his remarks, noting, “Dem say dem go cancel my show cus of my interview, loooool I don’t have to perform in Nigeria.”
Dailyeconomy had early reported that the former presidential spokesperson, Reno Omokri, slammed Davido, following his recent comments concerning Nigeria’s economy.
