The Delta State College of Nursing Sciences has withdrawn the disciplinary query issued to student nurse Osato Edobor following her involvement in a viral video at an event attended by the First Lady in the school.

In a letter dated Friday, March 28, signed by Provost Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, the college confirmed the withdrawal of the query.

This decision came after intervention from the Delta Commissioner for Health, Joseph Onojaeme, who instructed the institution to retract its actions.

The college had initially accused Edobor of engaging in a “malicious act” after she recorded an unofficial video during the First Lady’s visit to Asaba on March 27.

The footage, which showed nursing students rejecting the First Lady’s title as “everyone’s mother” during a welcome song, was widely interpreted as a political statement.

The letter of withdrawal instructed Edobor to return the original query to the student affairs office and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the situation.

The statement reads, “The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme in his magnanimity has directed the school authority to withdraw the query issued to you on the 27th March, 2025.

“You are therefore to return the query letter through the student affairs officer to the office of the provost.

“The school authority regrets any inconveniences this must have caused the state.”

Also confirming the withdrawer, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress and activist, Omoyele Sowore, who had earlier promised to protect the rights of the student wrote on X (formally Twitter), “After a team led by @ife_dike met with Nurse Osato Edobor on the campus of Delta State Colleges of Nursing Sciences, I spoke with the Delta State Commissioner of Health, who confirmed that the state has reversed the initial letter of  recommendation to penalize her for sharing content related to the ‘Na Your Mama Be Dis’ alleged diss song aimed at Senator @RemiTinubu at their school and Nurse Osato no longer need to attend any disciplinary panel.”
