The Argentina forward Angel Di María has announced his retirement from the Argentina national team after a 16-year career.
Di Maria disclosed his retirement from international football after they won the Copa America Cup against Colombia on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
Speaking with journalists after the victorious match, the 36-year-old player emphasised that he is very happy to have played and retired with Argentina.
He said, “It was my dream to retire from a national team like this. Argentina is my love and my country. Thank you.”
He however disclosed that he would spend one more season at Benfica before retiring from football finally.
“Of course, I will spend another season with Benfica,” he added.
Nonetheless, During Di Maria’s tenure in Argentina, he participated in four World Cups (2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022), reaching the final in Brazil in 2014 and eventually winning the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
