Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has clarified that the embattled National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Damagum, was suspended and not sacked.
The former lawmaker in a remark on Saturday via his X (formally Twitter) stated that PDP is a law-abiding party and accordingly opted to suspend Damagum instead of sacking him.
Melaye guaranteed that Damagum’s suspension would settle the party crisis.
He wrote, “In compliance with the court order, not to sack Damagun, he has been suspended and not sacked. We have obeyed the court order because PDP is a law-abiding party.
“The suspension will aid in the resolution of the crisis in our party. Senator Dino Melaye.”
It has been reported that factional of PDP’s National Working Committee, suspended Damagum alongside the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.
However, the Abuja Federal High Court restrained the National Executive Committee and PDP’s Board of Trustees from removing Damagum as the party’s acting national chairman.
The court ordered that no other person must be recognised as PDP national chairman other than Damagum until the national convention of the party is scheduled for December next year.
