Catholic bishops in New York have criticised United States President Donald Trump over his recent drama.

On Saturday, through his X (formally Twitter) handle, Trump shared an AI-generated image of himself dressed as Pope.

Also, the White House reposted the image on its X account.

Dailyeconomy had earlier reported that the last Pope of the Catholic Church, Francis Bergoglio, died on April 21, after a protracted illness.

He was buried outside the Vatican at the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome, Italy.

Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Prince William were among the dignitaries at the funeral.

Reacting to Trump act, the bishops, via the New York State Catholic Conference X handle, said there was nothing clever or funny about the image, stating that the process of selecting a new Pope is under way.

The statement reads, “There is nothing clever or funny about this image, Mr. President.

“We just buried our beloved Pope Francis and the cardinals are about to enter a solemn conclave to elect a new successor of St. Peter. Do not mock us.”

Recall that last week, Trump jokingly told a group of journalists that he would like to become the new head of the Catholic Church.
