The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has swiftly responded to the tragic killing of Northern travelers in the state, visiting the affected community to assess the situation firsthand.
Deeply saddened by the gruesome act, Okpebholo condemned the senseless violence and assured the victims’ families and the public that justice would be served in accordance.
During his visit on Friday, he ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into the incident, directing security agencies to track down and arrest those responsible for the blatant crime.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and travelers within Edo State, regardless of their background or ethnicity.
The governor also met with community leaders, urging them to promote peace and unity while assuring them that the government would not tolerate any form of lawlessness or targeted violence.
He thereby called on security operatives to intensify surveillance and patrols to prevent a recurrence of such tragic incidents.
However, it was gathered that security agencies have already commenced investigations, with efforts underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The victims, mostly Hausa hunters, were on their way to Kano on Friday, to celebrate the Sallah festivities when members of the Edo State Security Corps and local vigilantes reportedly blocked them and burned them.
