In response to the recent terrorist attacks in Yobe State, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, led a Federal Government delegation to express condolences to the victims’ families.
The delegation’s visit comes after a series of brutal attacks that resulted in at least 37 deaths, including a tragic incident where mourners were attacked by a landmine while returning from a burial.
This was disclosed in a statement shared on the verified social media page of the Ministry of Finance on Saturday.
Edun went to Yobe along with the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, and other top officials.
They met with the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni and expressed solidarity with the people of the state in light of the recent devastating terrorist attack that claimed many lives.
During the visit, Edun reassured the people of Yobe that the President Tinubu-led administration, through the Ministries of Finance and Budget and Economic Planning, would explore ways to provide financial support and intervention to the affected communities, ensuring justice for the victims, stating that the miserable event is a reminder of the importance of ensuring the security of lives and property.
Edun said, “This incident is a reminder of the importance of ensuring the security of lives and property, which is a key mandate of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.”
He also highlighted that the presence of the National Security Adviser was crucial to ensuring that the improved security situation in Yobe State is not compromised by this tragic event.
“HM Edun concluded by expressing his gratitude to Governor Mai Mala Buni for his leadership and resilience in the face of such adversity. He commended the people of Yobe State for their strength and perseverance during this difficult time,” the statement reads.
