EFCC arrests 36 for impersonating foreigners to scam

Operatives of the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, have arrested 36 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations of Onitsha, Anambra State.

This was divulged in a terse statement by the anti-graft agency on Thursday.

The suspects were according to EFCC arrested on October Friday, 11, 2024, following actionable intelligence linking them with suspected online criminal activities.

“Upon arrest, preliminary investigations showed that the suspects impersonated foreign nationals using social media platforms to defraud unsuspecting victims.

“Items recovered from them include eight luxury vehicles and sophisticated brands of mobile phones and laptops,” the statement said.

However, EFCC pledged to prosecute the suspects upon the conclusion of their probe.
