The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has officially debunked media reports attributing statements to its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, about the arrest of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM), urging the public to disregard such claims as false.
Dailyeconomy reported that the activist was detained last Friday inside a GTBank branch in Abuja over undisclosed allegations, sparking widespread protests demanding his release and condemnation from human rights groups accusing EFCC of unlawful arrest and mistreatment.
There are claims that the EFCC maintains VDM will be released if he meets bail conditions and insists on upholding the law, but has yet to clarify the exact charges or reasons for his detention.
Refuting the claims, the anti-graft agency took to its social media handle and wrote “Fake News” on the statements.
