EFCC nabs three in Maiduguri for shocking naira mutilation caught on viral video

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three suspects in Maiduguri over alleged Naira mutilation, following a viral social media video that sparked public outrage.
The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the EFCC acted swiftly after the footage surfaced, showing the trio using N500 notes to wipe mucus from their noses.
“EFCC Arrests Three for Suspected Naira Mutilation in Maiduguri,” the commission announced in a statement released Thursday.
The suspects—Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad, and Bashir Musa—were tracked down and apprehended in the Maiduguri metropolis.
“Adam, Muhammad and Musa were arrested following a viral video circulated on social media platforms where they were seen cleaning mucus from their nose using N500 Naira note,” the EFCC detailed.
They are now detained at the Maiduguri facility for ongoing investigation.
“The suspects are currently under investigation at the Maiduguri detention facility while investigation is ongoing,” the statement added.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”
