The Nigerian Railway Corporation has rolled out special train services and additional trips across key routes to manage the expected rise in passenger traffic during the upcoming Eid-al-Kabir celebrations.
In a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Public Relations, Callistus Unyimadu, the NRC announced an extra trip on the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) scheduled for Thursday, June 5.
The move is aimed at facilitating smoother travel for holidaymakers.
Additionally, a Special Eid Train Service will operate on the Warri-Itakpe route on the same day, despite Thursdays typically being reserved for maintenance.
To accommodate this, routine maintenance for the corridor has been rescheduled to Sunday, June 8, 2025.
The Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) will maintain its normal operations during the holiday period, with the NRC deploying extra coaches to handle the anticipated surge in passenger volume.
The corporation said the measures are part of its commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and convenient travel during the festive season.
It reads, “In response to the increased passenger demand during the festive period, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has added an extra trip to its Lagos- Ibadan Train Service (LITS) for Thursday 5th June 2025: Lagos to Ibadan: 8:00AM, 1:55 PM (Additional Trip) 4:00PM
“Ibadan-Lagos: 8:00AM, 11:03AM (Additional Trip), 4:46 PM (Note: The 4:00pm train will now depart at 4:46pm)
“Additionally, in the spirit of Eid-al-kabir and to ensure smooth travel for Muslim faithful and other passengers on the Warri-Itakpe corridor, the NRC will operate a Special Train Service on Thursday 5 June, 2025, which would ordinarily be a non- operational day reserved for maintenance.
“Consequently, routine maintenance activities originally scheduled for Thursday have been rescheduled to Sunday, June 8, 2025.
“The normal Abuja – Kaduna (AKTS) will run as scheduled with additional coaches attached to it.
“The Managing Director of NRC Kayode Opeifa, PhD. and his management team wishes all passengers a pleasant and safe journey during the celebrations and assures the public of its continued commitment to providing safe, efficient and customer-focused railway services.”
