The footage, originally recorded during Buhari’s final days in office in 2023, captures the former leader humbly acknowledging that his tenure may have caused pain to some citizens.
In the heartfelt clip, Buhari said, “Whoever thought that there has been some form of injustice on him, we are all humans. There is no doubt I hurt some people, and I wish they would pardon me. And those who think that I have hurt them, please pardon me.”
The video was widely shared again following Buhari’s death in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, where he passed after a prolonged illness at the age of 82.
Buhari served Nigeria as both a military Head of State (1983–1985) and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, winning two terms in office.
As Nigerians mourn, many recall Buhari’s final public address during the Eid-el-Fitr Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and openly welcomed criticisms and complaints in good faith.
