The Borno State  Police Command has re-arrested a convict, Kyari Kur, who escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri, the state capital.

Kur escaped from the facility in September after part of the perimeter fence collapsed due to a major flood incident in the city.

The Police Public Relations Officer, of the Borno command, ASP Nahum Daso, on Friday stated that Kur was apprehended on Thursday after police at Gubio Divisional Headquarters received credible intelligence about his movements.

Daso said, “‪The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP  Mohammed Lawal Yusufu, has successfully re-arrested escaped convict Kyari Kur (aka Henry), 28 years old.‬

‪”Kyari Kur was serving a jail term for criminal conspiracy and theft at the Medium Security Custodian Center in Maiduguri. Unfortunately, he escaped due to the devastating flood incident in September 2024, which collapsed the fence.‬

“On October 10, 2024, police surveillance at Gubio divisional headquarters received a credible tip-off that Kur was sighted in Gubio town. Swiftly responding to the information, the police apprehended Kur.‬

‪”The convict has been profiled and will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further action.‬”

‪The state CP restated the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and justice.

“We appreciate the public’s cooperation and urge them to continue providing timely information,” Yusufu added.
