The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, has earned widespread commendation for her rapid response and transparent communication in the wake of a recent fire at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.
Kuku wasted no time, issuing an update right after the outbreak to detail the situation, containment efforts, safety protocols, and plans to resume normal operations.
She personally led from the front, on-site coordinating emergency teams and enforcing FAAN’s fire and rescue procedures.
FAAN reaffirmed its dedication to top-tier safety, reduced passenger disruptions, and bolstered emergency readiness at all airports.
The agency expressed gratitude to airlines, security forces, responders, and passengers for their teamwork during the crisis. Flight operations are now ramping back up as inspections and repairs progress.
An investigation into the fire’s cause continues, with measures underway to ensure it never happens again.
