The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has finalised an agreement with Customs Licensed Cargo Agents at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) on revised port charge tariffs, easing tensions over proposed hikes.
The deal emerged from a stakeholders’ meeting on Monday, at MMIA Terminal 2 Conference Room, chaired by FAAN’s Director of Cargo Development and Services, Lekan Thomas.
A statement Tuesday from Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, announced the breakthrough.
After “constructive deliberations,” both sides settled on a port charge of N15.00 per kilogram.
This splits the difference between FAAN’s earlier proposal of N20.00/kg and the current N7.00/kg rate.
“The outcome reflects the spirit of dialogue, partnership, and shared responsibility,” Agbebire stated.
FAAN hailed the resolution as a win for business efficiency.
“FAAN believes it will enhance the ease of doing business at MMIA while supporting sustainable airport and cargo infrastructure development,” the statement added.
The agency recommitted to its SEDI principles—Safety, Efficiency, Development, and Innovation—plus ongoing terminal upgrades.
Agbebire thanked the agents, “FAAN appreciates the cooperation of the Customs Licensed Cargo Agents and looks forward to sustained collaboration in advancing Nigeria’s air cargo sector.”
The pact aims to balance revenue needs with affordability amid Nigeria’s push for aviation growth.
