The Federal Government will arraign suspects linked to the brutal killings in Yelwata, Benue State, tomorrow, signaling a firm crackdown on violence.
In a statement issued Sunday by Kamarudeen Ogundele, Special Adviser to the President on Communication & Publicity in the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, the FG announced, “Some suspects arrested and strongly linked to the killings in Yelwata, a town in Benue State, will be arraigned tomorrow (Monday, February 2) to answer for their crimes.”
The suspects face Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The move follows “a painstaking investigation and collaboration by government agencies,” the statement noted.
The AGF’s office emphasised its resolve, stating, “The office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice wishes to assure Nigerians that Justice will be ensured in the matter to send a strong signal to the enemies of the country, acting under any disguise.”
President Bola Tinubu’s administration reaffirmed its constitutional duty, adding, “The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to the protection of lives and property of all as enshrined in the constitution.”
This development comes amid ongoing security challenges in Benue, where herder-farmer clashes and other violence have claimed numerous lives.
