FG, Buhari mourn victims of Niger petrol tanker explosion‬

The Federal Government and former president Muhammadu Buhari have expressed their condolences following a tragic petrol tanker explosion in Niger State that claimed the lives of over 60 people and several cattle.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning when a petrol tanker collided head-on with a truck carrying passengers and livestock along the Lapai-Agaie road in Agaie Local Government Area.

The resulting explosion engulfed two other vehicles, a crane truck and a pickup van.

Reacting to the incident, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed in statement stated that the tragic  incident has shaken the entire Niger State and the nation.

He said, “It is with a heavy heart and deep sorrow that I extend my heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Niger State and the families, friends, and loved ones of the 48 persons who tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident along Bida-Agaie-Lapai road in Niger state in the early hours of Sunday, September 8, 2024.

“This terrible incident has shaken the entire Niger State and the nation at large and my thoughts and prayers are with all those affected during this painful time. I therefore join the people of Niger State and the whole of Nigeria in mourning this profound loss.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may God grant their families the strength and fortitude to bear this immeasurable loss.”

In his remark, the former president, Buhari extended condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and prayed for speedy recovery for the injured victim.

He wrote on his social media, “I wish to convey my deepest condolences to the government and people of Niger State following the devastating road accident on Sunday that claimed the lives of 48 persons.

“I am also extending condolences to the families of the deceased, and prayers for the swift recovery of the injured.”
