The Minister of Education announced on Friday the official start of the training phase for Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme.

Since its launch in May, the initiative has attracted over 1.3 million applications for the 6–12 month master training track, with 970,000 candidates certified eligible, Dailyeconomy gathered.

The minister shared on X, “The first cohort of 250,000 trainees has already been matched to over 1,700 training centres across the country.”

He said these trainees will gain hands-on skills in 25 NBTE-approved trades such as Hospitality, Fashion and Garment Making, Livestock and Animal Husbandry, and Solar Photovoltaics.

During visits to two training centres in Abuja, the minister observed motivated young Nigerians, many tertiary-educated, eager to gain practical skills and improve their livelihoods.

Highlighting government support, the minister underscored, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, remains deeply committed to transforming Nigeria from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-driven economy. Mr. President has approved the allocation of 5% of TETFund resources to sustainably support and scale our TVET programmes nationwide.”
